Who Is Dante?

There is some debate about the development of human personality; whether we come with our traits already in tact or if we are shaped by our experiences in life.  I tend to think it is a mix of the two-- that we each have a unique framework that is inherited just like all our other traits, and that this framework merely serves as a guide to our development, depending on our experiences as we grow.

It's too soon to know much in detail about Dante's personality because his experiences are so few and there's no way to know what he thinks.  But there are a few things you can tell. One thing I love is that he is affectionate.  When he sleeps in our bed, he stretches one hand all the way out towards James, so that his little finger tips tuck under his daddy's back, and the other hand, Dante rests on me.  He also loves to smile if you make eye contact with him-- both are intimate gestures and it warms my heart when he reaches out to us.

Dante's First Experiences

This weekend we went to Tiff and Mike's house to celebrate Tiffany's birthday.  I enjoyed watching Dante watch everyone else.  He may not have very lasting memories of these things yet, but one day all of these little events and the way people interact with him are going to help give him a sense of who he is, what he wants in life, what is expected of him and where he belongs.  Even though he is still part of us, he is becoming a little person of his own.  How exciting!

Dante has recently experienced going for long walks at the beach; hiking in the woods; bath time; dinner at Grandma and Auntie M's new house; and a birthday party. Welcome to the world, Dante!  Everybody loves you : )

  1. How blessed we all are to see this little life develop! So fun watching us all fight over who gets to hold Dante and who can make him smile or laugh. He enthralls me!
